DELTA STATE - The touch of the Master's Hand
As a lover of poems I stumbled across this old english poem titled "The old violin"
Twas battered and scarred, and the auctioneer thought it scarcely worth his while to waste much time on
the old violin, but held it up with a smile; "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
the old violin, but held it up with a smile; "What am I bidden, good folks," he cried,
"Who'll start the bidding for me?" "A dollar, a dollar"; then two!" "Only two? Two dollars, and who'll make it three? Three dollars, once; three dollars twice; going for three.." But no, from the room, far back, a gray-haired man came forward and picked up the bow; Then, wiping the dust from the old violin, and tightening the
loose strings, he played a melody
loose strings, he played a melody
The music ceased, and the auctioneer, with a voice that was quiet and low,
said; "What am I bid for the old violin?" And he held it up with the bow.
A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand! And who'll make
it three? Three thousand, once, three thousand, twice, and going and
gone," said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, "We do not
quite understnad what changed its worth." Swift came the reply: "The touch
of a master's hand."
And many a man with life out of tune, and battered and scarred with sin,
Is auctioned cheap to the thoughtless crowd, much like the old violin, A
"mess of pottage," a glass of wine; a game - and he travels on. "He is
going" once, and "going twice, He's going and almost gone." But the Master
comes, and the foolish crowd never can quite understand the worth of a soul
and the change that's wrought by the touch of the Master's hand.
This is the case of Delta State, under several regimes, the state has been thought for dead, but just almost instantly as it were in a flash of light things have changed as 20 industries are set to be revived by the State Government led by His Excellency Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa. This declaration was given by the Hon. Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Mrs. Iyasere Mary while addressing news men in asaba, she said the initiative would create prosperity for the people of the state. furthermore she stated the fact that the state government would not go back on its promise to revive these industries top of the list amongst others were the Bendel Glass, Bendel Steel Structures, Uzere Cassava Processing Mill, Reliance Rubber Factory, Sky Brewery, Asaba Textile Mill, Supper Brewery to mention but a few. She said that plans would soon be concluded to privatize some of the ailing companies, she further called on all private investors to come and work with the state government as the government is keen on shopping for core private investors who will invest in those industries. In her concluding remark she said “We are not going back on our plans to revive some of the ailing industries in the state. This is critical to us in driving our vision of job and wealth creation for the good people of the state. In fact, it is a concluded matter because if we do not revive the ailing industries, how do you think we can create jobs and wealth?”.
Truly for deltans Prosperity has come to stay.
